22 Hornet for Coyotes #2618016 12/04/08 OP Campfire Oracle Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 32,044 Merely wondering,does anyone on the forum use the 22 Hornet for calling Coyotes? I accept ii Hornet's, one is the SS Encore and the other Browning A-Bolt Micro-Medallion LH. I utilize Lil'Gun and the Hornady Five-MAX 40 gr in both rifle but have never tried them for calling Yotes. These rifles are very accurate with the higher up loads. My concern is runners, if the shot is past 50 yards. A Doe walks out of the forest today and says, that is the last fourth dimension I'm going to practise that for Two Bucks. With good bullets they work actually well. I wouldn't use the factory loads that have the hollow points. I accept been using the 5-max as well and am considering trying out the Barnes varmint grenade. I limit my shots to threescore-75 yards merely from experience. My partner and I used to shoot yotes with our 10-22's in .22 magnum, and we chop-chop learned to keep our shots shut. Doe #1 took it through the centre and broke her off shoulder. She ran near l yards. Doe #2 took one in the lungs and only stood still bleeding. Shot her again lungs off shoulder and bang bomb. Not a single bullet stayed in the deer. Bullet used was 45 grain TSX and xiii grains of Lil Gun/ small pistol primers. Last edited by Kaleb; 12/04/08. My own Browning Micro Medallion loves the combo of that bullet, 13.0 LilGun and Rem 6 1/2 primers with a Lee Mill Crimp applied to the WW instance necks. The gun loves it; fox, rockchucks, badgers and coyotes do non. Lacking that bullet, just practise the above with whatever 45 softpoint. Cleverly bearded as a responsible adult. Never had one do more than that hunt information technology's tail for two or iii turns afterwards hitting. I like the twoscore gr V-Max and 1680. Turning my hornet into G-hornet was the best thing I did. I would not hesitate taking a make clean shot at 150 yards. The first fourth dimension I shot myself in the head... I personaly know the fellow that deer hunted exclusively for the by 5yrs with the 22 Hornet Ruger commodities action. Claims he yearly fills his deer tags and never lost a deer. The man I got it from had never put a bullet downwards it just has killed very many deer with a 22 hornet Kimber rifle. He says the concluding 5-x years he deer hunted all he used was the hornet. If you lot similar hornets his niggling Kimber is sweeet. Don't think I'll always tote it equally my main go to deer rifle/pistol just I will shoot i or two with it from time to fourth dimension. Felt confident about breast shots but could not believe they went on through the shoulder too.
